The processing facilities serving the Karachaganak Field are designed to handle hydrocarbons extracted from one of the world’s most technically complex reservoirs. Located in a remote region of Kazakhstan, the field operates under a harsh continental climate, requiring highly reliable and advanced processing infrastructure.

Hydrocarbons produced from the reservoir contain naturally occurring compounds such as hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), which require specialized treatment and processing technologies. The refinery’s facilities are equipped with modern gas treatment, separation, and stabilization systems designed to safely process these components while maintaining high operational efficiency and strict safety standards.

According to the latest reserves assessments, the field contains approximately 13.6 billion barrels of liquids and 59.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, making it one of the largest hydrocarbon resources in the region. Continuous processing operations ensure that these resources are efficiently treated and prepared for export and distribution.

Significant investment has been directed toward the development and modernization of processing infrastructure. Since the signing of the production agreement in 1997, total investments in the development and processing of hydrocarbons from the Karachaganak project have exceeded USD 27 billion, supporting advanced technologies that enhance operational reliability, improve energy efficiency, and reduce environmental impact.
